What Is the Wheel of the Year?

The Wheel of the Year is the pagan calendar of eight seasonal festivals (sabbats). Four are solar (solstices and equinoxes) and four are Celtic fire festivals. Each sabbat marks a shift in the Earth's energy and offers unique magical opportunities.

Samhain (October 31)

Celtic New Year. Veil between worlds is thinnest. Ancestor communication, divination, release. Use the Lunar Phase Calculator to align Samhain rituals with optimal moon phases.

Yule (Winter Solstice, ~December 21)

Rebirth of the Sun. Return of light. Hope, renewal, peace. Great for new year intentions and releasing old patterns.

Imbolc (February 1-2)

First signs of spring. Purification, inspiration, Brigid blessings. Fire and candle magic are especially powerful.

Ostara (Spring Equinox, ~March 20)

Balance of light and dark. New beginnings, fertility, growth. Excellent for planting seeds of intention.

Beltane (April 30 - May 1)

Peak of spring. Fertility, passion, creativity, union. The most overtly joyful and sensual sabbat.

Litha (Summer Solstice, ~June 21)

Longest day. Peak solar power. Success, strength, abundance. Ideal for prosperity and protection magic.

Lammas / Lughnasadh (August 1)

First harvest. Gratitude, abundance, offering. Time to celebrate what you have manifested.

Mabon (Autumn Equinox, ~September 21)

Second harvest. Balance, thanksgiving, preparation for winter. Reflect on the year and give thanks.
