What is a sigil?
A sigil is a symbol created from a written intention. It compresses a desire into a visual form that bypasses the conscious mind and speaks to the subconscious. The technique was formalized by Austin Osman Spare in the early 1900s, but the principle — symbol → subconscious → manifestation — appears in every magical tradition.
Sigils are the most accessible form of magic: no tools, no rituals, no pantheon. Just intention, a symbol, and a moment of focused will.
How to create a sigil (step by step)
- Write your intention as a single sentence in the present tense: "I AM CONFIDENT IN SOCIAL SITUATIONS."
- Remove duplicate letters — keep only the first occurrence of each letter.
- Arrange the remaining letters into a unique, abstract symbol. There are no rules — let your hand move freely.
- Simplify — remove unnecessary lines, merge shapes, make it clean.
- Charge it (see below).
- Forget it. The sigil works while you are not thinking about it.

How to charge a sigil (gnosis)
Charging means projecting your intention into the sigil with enough emotional energy that it bypasses the conscious filter. Two methods:
- Inhibitory gnosis: deep meditation, sensory deprivation, exhaustion. The mind goes blank; you project the sigil into the void.
- Excitatory gnosis: intense emotion, physical exertion, sensory overload. The mind is flooded; you project the sigil through the noise.
Practical charging methods: orgasm, exhaustion, breathwork, cold exposure, dancing, drumming. Choose what fits your temperament. The key is reaching a state where the conscious mind is temporarily disabled.

The 3 rules of sigil magic
- One intention per sigil. "I want money AND love AND health" produces a confused symbol. Pick one, sharpen it, charge it.
- Forget it after charging. The sigil works while you are not thinking about it. Obsessing over the outcome is the #1 reason sigils fail.
- Charge with genuine emotion. A sigil charged while bored does nothing. The energy must come from real desire.
Common mistakes
- Too many sigils at once: charging 5 sigils in one session dilutes the energy. One at a time.
- Not forgetting: checking "did it work?" every day kills the sigil. Put it away and move on.
- Vague intentions: "I want to be happy" is too broad. "I feel confident presenting to my team on Friday" is specific and actionable.
