MY MIRROR
A love working aimed at another person runs into a problem that no amount of technique solves: the other person did not ask to be the object of your practice. This is not a technicality. The entire structure of chaos magic rests on the assumption that the practitioner's own will is the operative ingredient, and that assumption is precisely what makes aiming it at a specific individual difficult to justify. There is a way to work with love aims that is defensible, and it starts by accepting the mirror in the title, because what a love working mostly reflects is the practitioner rather than the target.

A love working that starts with the mirror
The mirror is the honest place to start. When you build a love working, the first thing you are working on is your own posture: what you want, what you are willing to accept, what you will not do, and what you currently believe about your own eligibility for what you are asking for. Almost nobody does this work. The aim is written directly at the other person, the sigil is built in one sitting, and the mirror is left facing the wall.
Doing it the other way round costs nothing and changes what the practice is. Write down what you would want to be true in your own conduct, not in the other person's feelings. Write the aim as a condition on yourself rather than an instruction to them. This is not a semantic trick to get around consent; it is a different and more tractable aim, and it is the only version of this work that produces something you can evaluate afterwards.
What the mirror is reflecting
Look at what the mirror returns and the usual contents are unflattering. A desire to be chosen. A standard the other person never agreed to meet. A fantasy that the working will produce a particular response and remove the need to be exposed as oneself. None of these is occult and all of them are common, and the working does not create them, it just gives them a form and a schedule.
There is a second layer, which is that the other person is a screen. Aiming at a named individual is a way of aiming at an outcome you have not dared to want directly, where the distance to the target makes the desire feel manageable. This is why the practice is so absorbing and why it so often produces nothing. The sigil works on the aim you can hold, and an aim you cannot hold, because admitting it would be admitting the vulnerability, is not one of them.
Reconciliation and attraction are different structures
Not every love working carries the same risk, and the difference is structural rather than a matter of degree. A reconciliation aim asks for the restoration of a relationship that already existed, which means the two parties have already demonstrated willingness toward each other at some point. The evidence for that willingness is in the past and does not require anyone to be manipulated in order to obtain it.
An attraction aim has no such history. There is nothing in the other person's conduct to point at, which means the only thing the working can do is influence a decision they have not made and did not invite you to make. Practitioners who are rigorous about this often find that a reconciliation aim is workable and an attraction aim is not, and that the distinction, once seen, cannot be unseen. The feeling the two aims produce is similar; the structure underneath them is not.
Why the will being operative is the whole problem
The declared position of this tradition is that the practitioner's will is the working ingredient, that no external agent is required, and that belief in the mechanism is unnecessary. That is a useful and defensible claim about method. It also means there is no point in the chain where the other person's autonomy enters as a constraint, because the chain runs entirely from your intention to your action.
A person who accepts that position honestly cannot also claim that pointing the practice at a specific individual is unproblematic, because those two positions sit badly together. The standard response is to say that consent is not needed because nothing is being done to them, only to you. That response is coherent, and it is also a position you should adopt consciously rather than arrive at by not thinking about it, because it will be tested by your own conduct.
Cascading, read from the inside
The phrase usually attached to repeated love workings is that they escalate. Practitioners describe the aim becoming larger, the interval shortening, the wording more imperious, and the observation that this is happening arriving later and later. Read as a description of an external pattern it is unfalsifiable and unimpressive.
Read as a description of the practitioner it is exact. The escalation is in your own conduct: more checking, more reinterpretation of messages, more rearrangement of your life around the other person's availability. You do not need a metaphysics of love to explain any of that, and the fact that the pattern appears in people who hold entirely different beliefs about what the working is doing is strong evidence that it is behavioural rather than occult.
An aim you could live with on paper
The test of an aim is whether you would be willing to show it to the other person, with your name on it, if they asked. Not whether it is kind, and not whether it is framed as a wish, but whether the words you actually wrote survive being read aloud by the person they name. Most attraction aims do not survive that. Reconciliation aims frequently do.
This test is not a rule from a book; it is a device for finding out what you have actually written, since the gap between the stated aim and the operative one is invisible from inside and usually only becomes visible under this kind of pressure. Write the aim down, read it as though someone else had written it, and see whether you are satisfied. If you are not, the problem is not your technique and rewriting the aim is the actual work.
The consent clause, in the charge itself
Some practitioners write a limitation into the charge, and this is worth doing even though it cannot make an inadmissible aim admissible. The clause takes the form of a stated condition: this working operates on my own conduct and my own attention, and on no part of anyone else. Written at the moment of charging, it functions as a discipline on your own attention for the weeks that follow.
The value is entirely in the enforcement rather than the words. The clause gives you a standing reason to notice when the working has started producing monitoring behaviour, checking, or reinterpretation of neutral messages as replies. Those are the observable signs that the aim has migrated from yourself to the other person, and having a written commitment makes it much harder to keep going while pretending not to have noticed.
What a no looks like from both sides
A refusal is a complete answer, and the test of a practice is what it does with one. A working on your own conduct is not damaged by a refusal, because you did the thing you said you would do and the outcome was not yours to determine. That is the ordinary structure of every behavioural practice worth having, and it is available in this field too.
A working aimed at the other person cannot survive a refusal without something worse happening first, because its only evidence of success is a favourable response. The workarounds people invent are well known: reinterpretation of the refusal as a necessary stage, escalating the aim, or quitting the practice while keeping the conviction that it was nearly working. Recognising these three in advance is worth more than any technique described here, because they are what happens when the method was never aimed anywhere it could have worked.
Reading the weeks afterwards
Look at your own record and not at theirs, and you will find a usable answer. Count the days you did the thing you committed to: wrote the paragraphs, sent the message you said you would send, made the appointment, stopped the monitoring. That count is the whole evaluation. The response you were hoping for is not in it and cannot be.
If the count is high and the response was a refusal, the practice worked and the aim was wrong, and those are different conclusions with different follow-ups. If the count is low, the practice did not work and no interpretation of the other person's silence will change that. This is the whole benefit of aiming at yourself: the evaluation becomes possible, and in most of the practices described in this field it is not.
What the practice cannot do
It cannot create a preference where none exists, and it cannot make someone available. The tradition is explicit that the will of another person is not the practitioner's to operate on, and the useful consequence of that admission is that it shrinks the practice to its actual size: attention, conduct, consistency, and the discipline to keep a record.
It also cannot insulate you from the outcome, which is the reason so much of the literature on this subject is written in the conditional tense. Everything that can honestly be claimed is conditional: your conduct changes, your posture changes, your capacity to be present changes, and those change what is available to you. Everything that cannot be honestly claimed concerns the other person's interior, and the boundary between the two is easy to state and hard to stay on the right side of.
Aims that dissolve the working
Some aims are self-cancelling and it is worth recognising them early. An aim phrased as a change in how someone feels about you is not an aim, it is a demand for control over a mind. An aim phrased as a restoration of a specific past configuration is a demand for a particular person to become a particular version of themselves. Both feel like aims and behave like complaints.
A workable aim is one you could carry out entirely by yourself and would still have carried out if the charge had failed. Test any candidate against that sentence. If the aim collapses when you imagine doing it without the ritual, the ritual was the aim, and what you have is not a practice but a wish with a schedule attached to it.
When to stop entirely
Stop if your conduct has started to involve the other person's private space: reading things you were not given, engineering encounters, using the practice to justify persistence after a clear signal. This is a behavioural boundary and it does not depend on what you believe about the working, because the conduct is observable on its own terms.
Stop, too, if you cannot stop. The compulsion to check for signs, to re-read old messages for new meaning, to reorganise your life around availability, is the pattern that this field names and that no amount of technique justifies. Leaving the practice is not admitting that magic does not work. It is admitting that the version of it you were running had stopped being a practice and had become a preoccupation, and that is a distinction worth acting on quickly.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is a love sigil ever ethically acceptable?
Only in a form you could show the other person. An aim that operates on your own conduct, your own attention, or on the restoration of a relationship that both parties previously wanted is defensible on ordinary ethical grounds, because it does not require anyone to be manipulated. An aim phrased as a change in another specific person's feelings is not defensible, and the tradition's own premises about the practitioner's will being the active ingredient are what make it indefensible rather than merely unlucky.
What is the difference between reconciliation and attraction workings?
The structural difference is prior evidence. A reconciliation aim points at something that already existed, so the two parties have a history of mutual willingness that does not need to be manufactured. An attraction aim has no such history, which means the practice has to operate on a decision nobody asked it to influence. Practitioners who apply the distinction carefully find reconciliation workable and attraction not, and they find the two aims feel similar from the inside, which is exactly what makes the distinction easy to miss.
How long should I run a love working before judging it?
Judge it on your own conduct within a fortnight, not on the other person's response within a month. The evaluation that is available to you is whether you did what you committed to, and that becomes visible quickly. If you are waiting to evaluate a working by the other person's behaviour, you have built something whose main output is interpretation, and interpretation is generated without limit by anyone who is invested.
Does the charging process make the working more effective?
There is no evidence that the charge changes anything in the other person's mind, and the claim is not the point. What the charge does is install a commitment, in the way that any irreversible act done at a moment of resolve tends to, and the irreversibility is a feature rather than a mystical property. Treat it as a decision device and it is genuinely useful. Treat it as a mechanism that operates on strangers and the reasoning has a hole in it you will eventually notice.
Can I use this for a relationship where I did nothing wrong?
The question is not whether you were at fault but whether the aim is one you could show them. A large number of people in exactly your position find that a reconciliation aim written as a condition on their own conduct passes that test, and an aim written as a restoration of the other person's feelings does not. If neither version passes, the honest conclusion is not that you need a better working but that you need to accept the answer you have already been given.
